"Hellion's taking his anger out on all the living creatures he can find in the forest"

- Tom on the subject of Hellion

Hellion the Fiery Foe is one of the Good Beasts of Tavania. A golem-like creature made up of swirling flames, the fire is only a product of his true body, which is large but thin, consists of a dark coal-like substance, and possesses short stumpy arms. The Beast makes his home in Tavania's volcano. Hellion takes name inspiration from Helios, Greek god of the sun, as well as the word hellion, a word that comes from Helios and describes rowdy behaviour, and has connections to the flames of anarchy. Due to Elenna's parents being killed in a fire when she was young, Hellion is one of very few Beasts where trauma and phobia (in this case pyrophobia) plays into their fight.

The Lost World[]

Hellion was one of Tavania's Good Beasts, and helped protect the kingdom. He made his home in Tavania's volcano, using the magma to keep his body ignited and protected the surrounding area. Malvel, having usurped the throne, chose to warp the Good Beasts of the kingdom to other areas to make them highly aggressive. Hellion and the other Beasts were ripped through portals from their homes, with the Fiery Foe being transplanted into the Forest of Doom. Struggling in the dense forest due to how different it was to his home, he went mad and began setting much of the forest alight to make it more similar to the volcano, becoming highly territorial to protect the fire.

Hellion's rapid reformation of the Forest of Doom with his torching of much of the woodlands caused a mass exodus of the animals who lived in the forest. As the Beast set more of the forest alight, Eldor, an alpha buck who had earned the title of king of the forest, caught scent of the smoke and found many of the animals he shared the forest with fleeing, and soon figured out there was a Beast in the woodland. In order to protect his herd and the forest, the stag chose to stay and fight. Spotting Eldor, the Fiery Foe took the form of a fireball and charged at the stag, changing direction to aim at the buck, who leapt aside. Hellion halted and reverted to his true form, turning to face Eldor as the stag, who refused to retreat due to seeing such a retreat as cowardice, charged him, rushing straight through his body and badly burning himself. The Fiery Foe shot a dart of fire from his body, igniting the leaves at the Beast's hooves, who reared up and lunged with his hooves, striking Hellion's true body and making him howl in pain. The Beast raised his arms in anger and the two continued to fight. Hellion would land a powerful blow on Eldor's flank, badly burning him and making him delirious with pain, who, out of his mind with agony, fled and would run into and madly attack Tom and Elenna soon after.

Tom and Elenna, after fighting off Eldor, continued into the heart of the forest, where they were detected by Hellion, who once again took on the form of a fireball and charged at them. Reaching them, the fireball stopped and Hellion took on his true form. Tom thrust his blade into the fire of the Fiery Foe's body, causing the Beast no harm and making him laugh at his enemy. Hellion lashed his fist into an oak tree, instantly setting it alight. Spotting Storm and Silver sheltering below a redwood tree, the Beast's eyes widened in interest and he advanced to them while stretching his body out, igniting it and forcing the animals to flee. Watching his prey flee, Hellion shrank back to his natural size and curled up, preparing to become a fireball again, however Tom desperately slashed at the Fiery Foe's flames, confusing the Beast, who uncurled himself as he silently watched Tom struggle with the heat of his own weapon until he dropped it onto the grass, then roaring in anger at his foe's attempt to harm him. Elenna fired a volley of arrows at the Good Beast, but the extreme heat of the Fiery Foe's body meant they burnt up before making contact. The Beast took a step towards his foes and roared when Storm and Silver returned, smashing his fist into a beech tree. As the pair neared him, Hellion began to advance on them, howling in anger as all four of his foes fled from him, smashing his fist into the ground in fury before pursuing them. The Fiery Foe shot a fireball from his hand at the Avantians that flew over their heads.

Santiago Canyon

Hellion hesitating to step onto the jetty.

Still roaring, Hellion pursued his foes out of the heart of the woods towards a nearby lake, being lured to the water. The Fiery Foe shot a streak of fire, striking, igniting and toppling a tree at the edge of the lake's clearing as he emerged from the woods. The Beast stared in fury at the portal high above his head, knowing only it had the power to take him home and began to swing his body in frustration, igniting the nearby plants. Tom, riding Storm, called to the Beast, who swung his head to spot him and raised an arm, launching a fireball that struck the ground before the horse and rider. The Fiery Foe shot another fireball as his foes began to ride towards the wooden jetty, which Tom and Storm dodged, and the projectile sailed harmlessly into the lake. As Tom and Storm reached the jetty, Hellion strode towards them, reaching the edge of the lake and growling in caution, pacing before the jetty as his foes reached the end of the wooden boards, the Fiery Foe's uncertainty being picked up by the Red Jewel. With a furious roar, Hellion leapt onto the jetty and began to march towards his foes, his footprints leaving the wooden boards ablaze, which the Beast didn't noticed until they began to collapse, causing him to turn back hesitantly. The Fiery Foe attempted to retreat, but the jetty being set alight cut him off. Tom called out to the Beast, telling him his foe was at the end of the wooden boards and that it was his move, enraging the Fiery Foe, who lunged forwards, destroying more planks, causing the Beast to panic. Trying to prevent himself from falling into the water, Hellion began wheeling his arms, however it didn't prove to be enough and with a screech of fury and terror, the Beast fell into the water. The Fiery Foe was instantly doused and his true body was revealed as the Beast flailed back towards shore desperately.

Adriondack

Hellion (in his true, doused form) pinned under the fishing net.

Hellion dragged himself onto the shore, clambering to his feet and rushing away from the water to the edge of the forest. Roaring in defiance, Hellion began grabbing small sticks and leaves, pressing them to his body in an attempt to reignite his body, but failed as his doused body was unable to set the dry plants alight. Turning to his foes, the Fiery Foe launched a small fireball at them, striking Storm's neck. Tom rushed at the Beast and grabbed a branch, shocking Hellion, who remained still as his enemy advanced on him. Tom stabbed the branch into Hellion's neck, causing him to howl in pain and trip onto his back, stretching an arm out and releasing a small jet of flame to keep Tom away, making him drop the branch and plunge it into his stomach. Rubbing his neck, the Fiery Foe stood up, ripping the branch from his stomach with a roar. Distracting the Beast, Elenna began firing arrows at Hellion, who howled in confusion as the arrows struck his body. Silver joined Elenna, attacking the Beast's legs, who began to lurch side to side to try and dodge the attacks. At Tom's request, Elenna and Silver backed off as the warrior threw a fishing net over the Fiery Foe before Hellion could figure out what was happening. The net covered him with a grunt of surprise, the wet ropes dousing the small flames that had began to return. Before he could recover and throw the net off, Elenna pinned him down with rocks, leaving the Beast only able to roar in vain. Knowing he was defeated, the Beast made no further efforts to fight back, his submission being picked up through the Red Jewel. Knowing he had to spare the Fiery Foe to send him home, Tom removed the rocks and loosened the net, receiving gratitude from the Beast via a flash of his eyes. The Beast slumped his head to his chest, fully admitting defeat. With Hellion defeated, the portal tore the net from the Good Beast and pulled him into the air, towards the rift. As the Beast neared the portal, his body reignited fully, causing him to throw out his arms and roar in joy before vanishing back to his home in the volcano.

You bite the hand that feeds

Hellion with the other Good Beasts participating in the Battle of the Tavanian City.

During the Battle of the Tavanian City, the new Tavanian Master of the Beasts Dalaton summoned the Good Beasts of Tavania to him to aid the rebel forces in fighting Malvel and the Tavanian army. Hellion dropped into the courtyard with the other Tavanian Beasts and directed his flames at the castle walls. The Fiery Foe was aided by Krestor and Carnivora who combined their acid and fire breaths to create a fireball, which exploded over his head and boosted his power. Hellion used his increased power to barrel through the stone walls, creating an opening. After the battle was won, Hellion returned to the volcano, now serving under Dalaton, who is fully recognised as a Master of the Beasts.

Beast with Fire Upon its Back

"This Beast's lair is deep in an active volcano. His body is like a column of flame, as tall as a blazing house. If he senses a threat, Hellion curls into a ball and rolls across the ground like a hurtling bonfire, scorching everything in his path."
