"This is a dark day for Gwildor, ... I have battled the storm king before. The whole of Gwildor was very nearly destroyed."

- Krabb

Krabb is a Gwildorian Good Beast living in the Gwildorian Ocean. The Master of the Sea is a crab Beast, likely specifically based on the coconut crab, the largest species of crustacean. As a crab, Krabb has eight legs and two powerful pincers, with an additional pair of tusks jutting from above his mouth. His claws offer exceptional strength, able to grab ships and grapple with other sea Beasts, meanwhile his legs give him quick movement across the seabed. The wide back of the Master of the Sea is often used as a platform to carry allies, sometimes used to move warriors into naval battles. The Beast sustains himself on a diet of fish, which he is easily lured to. Krabb came under the power of the evil wizard Velmal twice, at least once against his will, where he acted as a bane to the coastline, keeping unwanted ships from reaching port. He was the only Gwildorian Beast not present at the Battle of Jengtor against the Pirates of Makai and the coalition of Sanpao, Kensa, and Jeng, as he had no way of reaching the capital as it was not located on the coast. Often, Krabb was used as transport by Gwildor's Master or Mistress of the Beasts to speed up defending the Gwildorian Ocean . It was in battle with Krabb that Tom received a poisoned wound that plagued him throughout his quest in Gwildor.

Time defending Gwildor[]

Like other Good Beasts, as soon as Krabb reached maturity, he entered the service of a kingdom, with his being the Kingdom of Gwildor. Krabb offered security to the eastern coastline of the kingdom and the Gwildorian Ocean it bordered, acting as the main line of defence from various threats of the ocean, including pirates and rarely Beasts, but frequently simply keeping ships who entered Gwildorian waters safe from harm.

The most notable period of his service to the kingdom at this stage was his battle against Verak, an Evil Beast. The Storm King entered the Gwildorian Ocean, intent on attacking the kingdom. Whether he was doing this on the orders of another or simply his own will is unknown. Krabb engaged Verak, the two dueling in the sea. The battle was incredibly intense, nearly destroying all of Gwildor in battle. Despite the strength of his foe, Krabb came out victorious, the Storm King sinking into the waters between two small islands in the Gwildorian Ocean and falling dormant.

Velmal's first attack[]

Far later, the wizard Velmal, expert in dark and illegal magic, parted ways with the Circle of Wizards to seek more power. As a Gwildorian, he chose to attempt to take power of his own kingdom. His plan required the assistance of the six Good Beasts. Either by deceiving the Beasts of his intent or by bending them to his will with his signature mind controlling poison, Krabb and the other five Beasts fell under the control of Velmal. Upon the discovery of the attack on Gwildor, the kingdom's greatest ally, the Kingdom of Avantia dispatched Taladon, their Master of the Beasts, to prevent Velmal from taking power. The Master of the Sea engaged the Avantian warrior, being defeated by Taladon. After the Master of the Beast's victory, Krabb was released from the dark wizard's influence, and returned to his duties defending the kingdom while Taladon went on to defeat the other Good Beasts and Velmal.

The Shade of Death[]

After Velmal freed himself from the dungeons of Jengtor, he set about working on a second attempt to seize power in Gwildor. He attacked the six Good Beasts with his poison, slashing one of his pincers with a weapon coated in the poison, corrupting Krabb. Velmal ordered the Master of the Sea to prevent any ships from entering Gwildorian sea to prevent external forces from preventing his success as they did the first time.

While conducting his patrol, Krabb came across a small fishing boat being used by the young fisher Castor. The Beast burst from the water next to the boat. As Castor attempted to row away, the Master of the Sea began to advance on the boat, standing directly above the craft and lowered his pincers below his form, slashing at the ship and breaking it in two. Castor, terrified, questioned what the Beast was, receiving a cry from the Beast in return, who then lashed a pincer at the boy. Castor tried to flee into the sea as the limb descended, slashing him in the back. Krabb was content to leave him to drown, however the unconscious fisher washed back up on shore.

When Avantia discovered Velmal had launched a second attack, they sent Tom and Elenna to ensure the wizard's defeat. Velmal discovered the orders and not willing to deal with Avantians again, sent Krabb to prevent them from reaching Gwildor. When the ship carrying them drew close to the coast, the Master of the Sea rose up in front of them, blocking them from moving closer to the coast while Velmal ordered them to turn back. When they refused to do so, Krabb rose up on his back legs and attacked. He gripped the prow with a pincer, destroying it, doing so again with the mast. As Elenna began to move the ship to shore, the Beast struck down with a pincer, being parried by Tom's blade as the craft moved past the Master of the Sea, who struggled to gain on the small, broken ship after it passed him. Unwilling to do serious harm to a Good Beast, Elenna fired an arrow in the joint where Krabb's front leg met his shell, causing the Beast to roar in pain and retreat below the waves, offering no further resistance to the Avantians.

Despite having reached Gwildor, the Avantians wanted to free Krabb instead of bypassing him. Discovering the Beast's preference to fish, Elenna tied a net of fish to Tom's leg and cast it into the sea. Krabb caught the scent and advanced as the Avantians struggled with a shark who had also found the net. He opened a pincer and slashed the shark in two, letting the halves fall into the water before fishing one out and shoving it into his maw. The Master of the Sea saw Tom and the net tied around his hand, and sank into the water, grabbing the line and pulling Tom below the water. Elenna and Tom pulled on the line to try and drag Krabb out of the sea, but were unable to match his strength. Tom allowed himself to be pulled into the water as Elenna threw him the pearl, unable to catch it as the corrupted Beast pulled him with greater strength, however he recovered it from the seabed in time to prevent himself from drowning. As he was pulled close to The Master of the Sea, Tom cut the line, his momentum carrying him forward, rolling to rest on his shell. Krabb cried out in confusion as Tom lost his grip and came to rest on top of his leg. The Beast was unable to strike Tom, but the Avantian fell to the seafloor. Krabb attacked with his spiked legs, the first delivering a small scratch to his hip, the second being parried by Tom's blade. The warrior tried to swim towards the Beast's shell, being thrown away by Krabb turning, creating a current that carried his foe away. As Tom was thrown through the water, The Master of the Sea grabbed his right arm with his poisoned pincer, giving Tom Velmal's poison. Desperate, Tom dropped the pearl from his left hand, released his sword, and grabbed the weapon with his left hand. Krabb noticed, but was too slow to prevent Tom from hacking at the poisoned pincer, releasing the poison inside the limb and freeing Krabb, but causing great pain while doing so. Released and grateful for Tom doing so, Krabb decides to return the favour and rushed past him, recovered the pearl, and forced it into his hand, preventing the Avantian from drowning. The two silently reconciled and the Beast carried him to the surface. Tom explained to Elenna the Beast had been purified as Krabb slipped back under the surface to resume his normal duties to protect Gwildor.

The Darkest Hour[]

The toadie rule

Krabb caught in the confusion of Avantia, Gwildor and Kayonia being pulled together.

When the Lightning Beasts were freed from the Lightning Prison, Krabb was assisting Freya in patrolling the Gwildorian Ocean. Krabb sensed the return of the Lightning Beast Solak to the sea, and began anxiously snap his pincers. He detected the approach of the Scourge of the Sea, turning to face the approaching Evil Beast, who turned away from his foes at the last second. Freya ordered Krabb to pursue the shark Beast, however they found no sign of Solak, only the chaos of Avantia, Gwildor and Kayonia being pulled together. Solak returned before Tom and Elenna reached the Master of the Sea and Mistress of the Beasts, badly wounding both and leaving them to die in the waters of the kingdom, leaving Krabb with three broken legs.

Sepron carried Tom and Elenna to the wounded pair, with Tom using a healing leaf to heal the broken legs. Against the Lightning Beast, Krabb acted as a platform, keeping the Avantians safe from Solak's attacks above the water. When the Scourge of the Sea was driven off, the Master of the Sea took them to the beach. Krabb and Sepron began to search for Solak in the sea, unable to locate the Lightning Beast as he evaded them. Krabb returned to the shore to allow Tom and Elenna to climb onto his shell, taking them out to sea to find the Scourge of the Sea. When the group were ready to use a Lightning Token, Krabb carried them back out to sea for the second fight with Solak. After the Lightning Beast's defeat, Krabb returned them to the shore once more.

When Tom was thrown from the Pirates of Makai's ship following Sanpao attacking him, Krabb, nearby, saved him from the depths, bringing him back to the surface upon his shell. Verak emerged before the pair, revealing his awakening, and Krabb explained his previous battle with the Storm King. Tom ordered Krabb to attack the pirate ship, with Ria ordering Verak to intercept. The two crustacean Beasts locked pincers and began to try and defeat the other. The Master of the Sea was nearly overpowered by the Storm King as Verak pulled a pincer back and snapped it down on Krabb's limb, causing him to cry in rage and thrust his injured claw into the sea for protection, however Sepron and Elenna arrived, distracting Verak and saving Tom and Krabb. With a hiss of rage, the Master of the Sea charged past the Evil Beast, allowing Tom to slash at Verak. As the Gwildorian Beast was badly injured in battle, Krabb was sent away to recover from his wounds, being thanked by Tom for his help.
